Tattoo, to do or not to do?

I have often thought over the decision of whether to get a tattoo or not. It's so easy to say " Deadly, I'm getting a tattoo, exactly like that one, it's cool" But when ya actually think about it, is it?

A tattoo is a materialistic thing I think for almost anyone I know that has one. It's a fashionable accessory. I don't need a tattoo to remind me of what my name is ( sounds really stupid but I actually know people who have their own names tattooed on themselves), I don't need a tattoo to prove I'm a Bowie fan or to show I am a big fan of the Arsenal, or My parents or gf's names written on me in Chinese symbols.
What I want is a tattoo that has a spiritual meaning, or intellectual or emotional substance. Something I can always relate to and transcends beyond the materialistic. Not something crass, or ignorant, or something that in many years time when I'm a grandparent I will look at in the mirror and think " What...the..fuck"?

Speaking of that, Hopefully I won't need my own name tattooed onto me when I'm a grandparent

I want something subtle. Ink that as a symbol, an engraving, speaks of something I believe in deeply.

It's something I'm still gonna continue thinking about.

2010, It was a very good year

Well it's been a while and so here it is. My first post of 2011. I think I'll do something of a sparse "Best of 2010" for this edition. So without further a do...

2010 was a very good year. Finished college in Ireland, entered college in England. To the lovely area of Preston. Don't get me wrong, there are nice people and the university is spectacular. In fact I'm typing this from within the UCLAN library, a state of the art building with state of the art equipment. Preston itself is far from state of the art.
Unless the art in question was some sort of form of shit modern art. Yes! A new movement perhaps called derelictism, or decayism, pioneered by some pretentious twat through the creation of such areas as Preston.
There are nice areas in (de)Preston, I have no doubt. I just haven't been to them yet. Except maybe Sunny Side Up, which has the best BLT's I ever ate in my life.

College graduation was indeed a highlight for me. 2 years of hard work certainly paying off. Some great times were had with some great friends in Colaiste Dhulaigh.
Film 2 Hard as Nails Cunts, you know what I mean.

I started listening to some great music in 2010. Favourite albums of the year for me would be

Whispering Pines: Live at the Getaway, a live album from the late Richard Manuel.
Aja, Steely Dan
The Suburbs, Arcade Fire
The Dreaming, Kate Bush
Plastic Beach, Gorillaz

The best Film of 2010.
For me I am choosing two films that were released far before 2010, but ones I only viewed at the tail end of the last year. Dances With Wolves, one of the most sumptuous and visually appealing films I have ever seen. The fact that it's Costner's directorial debut is also very admirable and inspiring. Moments in that film genuinely had me in awe, on the verge of a wide array of emotions. What a shame that a great nation was created at the expense of the Native American.

A film which also had me in awe, for totally different reasons I should add, was American Movie: The Making of Northwestern. It's a documentary about aspiring Milwaukee filmmaker Mark Borchardt. The best films are about struggle, and Borchardt's journey in this film is one of serious and real struggle. I can identify somewhat with Borchardt's plight and feel sympathy for the guy, but I could also not help but laugh at his mental ideas and crazy vernacular and surrounding followers. It's a great documentary, which in effect, is about people. If you haven't already realised it, realise it now. People are weird. It's cool.

Best Sessions of 2010
Well I'm of the belief that for a session to be truly memorable, it should be one that you actually can't remember. At least in full, anyway! That being said, I'm going to have to go for a recent session in Swan's Pub in Curragha. Guinness, Beer, Whiskey tasting, followed pointlessly by Sambuca, kinda rendering the cool and classy past time of whiskey tasting obsolete. Needless to say, and without naming names, people did pass out and people did shed blood. What can I say, twas deadly craic!

Best Day of 2010
 Umm...March 27th

2011 will bring another graduation, a lot of surprises ( winning the lotto would be great, God) and The Taxi Driver workout!!
Over and Out!
